The versatility of Billy Joel’s impressive oeuvre can hardly be overestimated. The master has always managed to move through every conceivable stylistic device like a virtuoso. But there is one constant factor: the classical influence.
Alexander Broussard of The Billy Joel Experience wanted to make the duality between pop and classical visible within Joel’s work by pitting his band against the German string quartet ‘La Finesse’, but discovered that one cannot exist without the other. In ‘Nocturne’, they meet, clash, and embrace each other; a show that manages to bring together the poetry of the night and the timeless music of Billy Joel.
De veelzijdigheid van Billy Joel’s indrukwekkende oeuvre kan nauwelijks overschat worden. De meester heeft zich altijd als een virtuoos weten te bewegen door alle mogelijke stijlfiguren. Maar er is één constante factor: de klassieke invloed.
Alexander Broussard van The Billy Joel Experience wilde de dualiteit binnen het werk van Joel tussen pop en klassiek zichtbaar maken door zijn band tegenover het Duitse strijkkwartet ‘La Finesse’ te zetten, maar kwam erachter dat het één helemaal niet zonder het andere kan. In ‘Nocturne’ ontmoeten, bestrijden en omarmen zij elkaar; een show die de poëzie van de nacht en de tijdloze muziek van Billy Joel bij elkaar weet te brengen.
